An Art Showing
Yesterday, Saturday, December 10, a special showing of artwork from some our own Second Saturday Studio artists took place in the Searcy Art Gallery. It was a wonderful opening to a really good showing of local artists. The show will be hanging until sometime in January, so perhaps you might want to gather some friends, have a nice lunch, and visit the Searcy Art Gallery for some art shopping. The gallery is located in the old 'Black House' on Race Street, just before you get to Walgreens. There is sign out front.
You'll enjoy the variety of art for sale and the gift shop also.
Searcy Art Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 1-4:30 and Saturday 10-2:00.
Four artists from Second Saturday Studio are participating in the show. Kelly VanHook, Audra Jones, Micah Holden and Cheri Peden have quite a selection of their artwork there for you to see and enjoy. They each have their own style and it's interesting to see what they've created.
Kelly does abstracts.....she sure loves color! Here you will see several of her pieces.....and you'll enjoy them even more in person. Many layers of paint make up each canvas....it's fascinating to watch her paint....as she brushes, smears, dabs, sprays and adds those many layers and colors.
Audra does the most delightful animal portraits using watercolors. She'd be happy to do a portrait of your own pet. They are so lifelike, sometimes you have to look twice at them to be sure they aren't photos. She has other talents as well, having cards and little books at Second Saturday also.
Micah paints whimsical paintings.....delightful is what they are! She never fails to enchant us with her sense of color, the subject matter and the little 'stories' these paintings can tell. It's always FUN when Micah is in the studio!
Then, there is Cheri. Oh my! Cheri paints using many different media.......oil, watercolors, and acryllic and paints on everything from canvas, to antique tin ceiling tiles, to boards, and on and on. We are constantly amazed by her. She recently opened a booth at the new Freeway Emporium where she will sell some of her paintings, and a variety of vintage items. You'll want to check it out.
So........there are four of our artists. Such great girls.....so talented and ready to see you at Second Saturday Studio. Let us know how you feel about the show...and drop in to our studio anytime the lights are on!

One of Our Favorites Has A New Home
A nice person came into the studio last Friday and purchased one of our favorite paintings...it's an oil...painted by Sandra Kraft. So wonderful....and the frame is gorgeous too! Here you see the painting and a close-up....click to see the little farm house! There is even a fence....
We still have some of Sandy's paintings. There is a lovely blue vase still life...so here it is. Click on it too, to see close-up.
And, there is a 12 x 12 inch painting of trees...so nice for Fall. If you like these....drop by to see what else is available...we always love to visit with you. Who knows, you might even see that Christmas present you need to purchase!
We are there if the lights are on.....mostly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday...then the second Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We'd love to see you and now that we have a 'working studio' you can also see 'works in progress.' Drop by sometime and say hi!

A Friday Night Opening
Hi...how are you all? We've been amiss at posting on this blog and are planning on doing better this Fall. We had a special opening last Friday night....for Searcy's "Get Down..Downtown" event. We had lots of new folks stop by and take a look at what we are doing here in the studio these days. For those of you who haven't stopped by in a while....things have changed a bit.
We've changed and re-arranged our work stations, added some new artwork and would love to have you visit us again. As always we are open on the Second Saturday of each month, but since we are now working in the studio....we find ourselves able to be OPEN (unofficially) several days a week. Our new rule: "IF THE LIGHTS ARE ON...WE'RE OPEN." You can find one or two of us there nearly every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Of course, a special opening can be arranged if you let one of us know in advance.
These photos were taken last Friday night...before all our visitors arrived....here you can see one of our artists, Cheri and her son, Joe. Joe is a good helper and took some time to work on his own painting that night. Cheri is a wonderful artist, and we have several of her painted antique ceiling tins available, she also does canvases and we are enjoying seeing her work as it progresses. She likes to work on several pieces at one time. Come see what she's doing sometime...you would enjoy it.
Also shown on this post is one of Cheri's paintings. Don't you love these shoes? This painting has been SOLD already....but she has another pair on view....with an entirely different look.
We'll be happy to see you THIS Saturday....as it is the Second Saturday of October! Have a great weekend!

"Laundry" at My Backyard Studio
Thought I might just take a minute to post something on our downtown studio's blog. Everyone else is working hard (at real jobs) and I've just posted about current events at my backyard studio on my blog, so thought I'd just show a couple of photos here. Sometimes people come into Second Saturday and have no idea what I'm about...so here's just a peek. I like to 'hang out vintage laundry' when I am having guests at my backyard studio. Sometimes it vintage clothing, sometimes is a vintage quilt, or one of my quilts. Sometimes it's just fabrics from my collection. Thursday I hosted a studio tour on behalf of the Arkansas Quilters Guild, which was won by Pat C. of Little Rock. So, of course, the laundry had to be hung! Hope you like this little peek! Come by Second Saturday on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday (from 10:00 - 2:00), and I'll be happy to tell you more or arrange a tour just for you. Enjoy your summer!! pat eaton

New Jewelry Artist, Patsy Kanthak
"I have always loved art and over the years I have dabbled in many forms. I have never met a craft that did'nt spark my interest. My home and garden have been my lab and workshop where I house my collections of the unique, the whimsical and occasionally the obsurd. I have attempted to create a celebratory life that includes family, friends, pets, travel, health, exercise, gardening, nature, photography, music, art and a "stop and smell the roses" attitude. My biggest passion has been making cards for the past 5 years or so, but I also took time to make purses and aprons and decopagueing anything I could. My craft room, or 'sweat shop' as I lovingly refer to it is filled with all sorts of supplies, I think I can rival Hobby Lobby. That room is where I love to spend all the time life will allow. My most recent enterprise has been making jewelry, as I bent my first wire I was hooked. Well you guessed it after a few months, my jewelry was piling up and I was looking for an avenue to display my goods. As luck would have it while having my hair done I ran into Micah and showed her my earrings and I am proud and happy to now be showing my jewelry at Second Saturday Studio." |
